The Chosen Servant of Isaiah  43:10-11

“You are My witnesses”, declares the LORD (Yahweh), “And My servant whom I have chosen, So that you may know and believe Me And understand that I AM HE. Before Me there was no God formed, And there will be none after Me. I, even I, am the LORD (Yahweh), And there is no Saviour besides Me.” Isaiah 43:10-11

Jesus said in John 8:24, “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I AM HE, you will die in your sins”. Then in John 8:27 Jesus said, “They did not realize that He had been speaking to them about the Father”. Thus we can clearly see that Jesus was referencing himself as the “I AM HE” of Isaiah 43:1-11 who is our only true God the Father.

We know that God the Father has to be the speaker in Isaiah 43:10 and 11 because the Father said, “And My Servant whom I have chosen” concerning Jesus Christ. Then God the Father goes on to state that we must know and believe that the chosen servant is that God and Father incarnate as a true man by saying, “I AM HE”. Since the Father is the speaker in Isaiah 43:10-11, the Father said “I AM HE” referencing the chosen servant. Then the Father clearly states, “and there is no saviour besides Me”. For why would Jesus be called the Saviour of all of God’s people as “the Saviour of the world” in John 4:14 if he is not the Father who said, “There is NO SAVIOR BESIDES ME”?

Jesus plainly declared that He is the Father with us as a man when he said, “unless you believe that I AM HE, you will die in your sins”. The context in verse 27 states that “They did not realize that He (Jesus) had been speaking to them about the Father”. Therefore Jesus was speaking to them about the deity of the Father when he said, “unless you believe that I AM HE, you will die in your sins”.

In order to counter the clear evidence that Jesus is the deity of the Father incarnate as man, some Trinitarians have asserted that Isaiah 43:10-11 is addressing “Jacob” or “Israel” as God’s chosen people as God’s witness rather than Jesus the Messiah himself. However, at 22 minutes into a YouTube Video entitled, “The Forgotten Trinity” – https://youtu.be/_ecgkxevoYI - Trinitarian apologist Dr. James White cited Isaiah 43:10-11 to show that Jesus the Messiah is Yahweh. Dr. White even said that the Jehovah’s Witnesses get their name from this passage. In the video, James White said that the Greek text in John 13:19 uses the same Greek words for Jesus saying, “I AM HE” as in the Greek Septuagint in Isaiah 43:10. John 13:19 says, “From now on I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I AM HE”. Jesus also said the same in John 8:24, “If you do not believe that I AM HE, you will die in your sins”.

The Targum was a first century exposition of the Hebrew Scriptures written by Jews. The Targum says that Isaiah 43:10 refers to the Messiah, the Targum reads, “and my servant the Messiah, in whom I am well pleased; …”

The Pulpit Commentary says, “The ‘Servant’ intended can only be the one true Servant of Isaiah 42:1-7 (the Messiah), since faithful Israel is already among the witnesses.”

Jesus said in John 8:24, “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I AM HE, you will die in your sins.”

Trinitarians endeavour to twist the clear meaning of inspired texts of scripture in alleging that there is a second distinct God the Son Person who is not the Father as a Second Saviour of the world and as a second “I AM HE” God Person distinct from the Father. In contradistinction, the plain scriptural evidence proves that the divine Person called the Father is the only Saviour of God’s people throughout the world and the only great “I AM” and “I AM HE” of eternity past. Thus, when Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I AM,” He clearly identified Himself as the same divine Person of the Father with the Jews as a fully complete human being. For when the Holy Spirit came down from heaven upon the virgin (Luke 1:35), God also became a man who was “made” exactly like all men (Hebrews 2:17; Hebrews 1:3).
